Samantha is a person first, but “lawyer” is her chosen profession. She loves getting to know each client’s unique story and problems. She takes pride in being the person who stands up for them. “I like being there for people and helping them navigate difficult situations,” she says. “At the very least, I can provide some answers and guide them through the process. At best, I can solve their problem.”
Samantha grew up in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, where she assumed a normal childhood consisted of bottle-feeding calves, snapping beans, and digging up worms for fishing. Samantha left home to pursue her dream of being a Wahoo at the University of Virginia. At first, she planned to study medicine, but she switched gears and ultimately graduated from UVA with a bachelor’s degree in history. She then headed to the University of Richmond on the A. D. Williams Law scholarship. She obtained her law degree from the University of Richmond’s T. C. Williams School of Law.
After graduation, Samantha joined a Richmond law firm that focused on traffic cases and criminal defense. It was here she found her niche and became a partner with that firm in 2016. Samantha enjoyed helping clients resolve their traffic troubles and loved helping people rebound from mistakes and put tough criminal charges behind them.
Eventually, Samantha decided to open Upton Law, PLLC, a firm rooted in her own values: honesty, compassion, and personalization. She maintains her focus on both criminal and traffic offenses.
When not in court, Samantha enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, Winston, an Italian Greyhound, and Tonka, a yellow Lab. She still loves history but also enjoys reading, softball, Zumba, and karaoke. If you spot her outside of the courthouse, you’ll most likely catch her enjoying an oversized plate of nachos at an RVA restaurant.Contact Samantha
